At Pear Tree Infant and Nursery School, attendance is a core value and a key priority. We firmly believe that every school day counts, and regular attendance is essential in helping your child reach their full potential, both academically and socially.
Our Headteacher, Mrs Suddhi, works very closely with our Attendance Champion, Mrs Wilkins, to carefully monitor and track all children’s attendance. Where attendance begins to fall below expected levels, Mrs Suddhi will meet regularly with parents and carers to discuss any concerns. These meetings are always approached in a spirit of partnership, with the shared aim of supporting families and addressing any barriers to good attendance.
We understand that young children will occasionally need to attend medical appointments. However, we kindly request that, wherever possible, these are arranged outside of school hours. If your child must attend an appointment during the school day, please ensure that appointment cards are brought into school.
We also ask for your cooperation in not requesting holidays during term time, as these will not be authorised.
There is a clear link between attendance and achievement:
Where attendance is persistently low, the school has a duty to refer to the Inclusion and School Attendance Service, which may result in further action, including a financial penalty.
If your child’s attendance becomes a concern, you will receive a letter from our Attendance Champion, Mrs Wilkins, and we will begin a period of monitoring. If there is no improvement, you will be invited into school for a meeting and may be referred to the Inclusion and School Attendance Officer.
School attendance remains a high priority at Pear Tree Infant and Nursery School, and we are committed to working together with families to ensure the very best outcomes for every child.
If you would like to discuss your child’s attendance or need support, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Wilkins via the school office.
School hours are 8:50am to 3:20pm, and it is important that children arrive on time each day, ready to learn.
Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.

School Absences
During the autumn and winter months, it is common for a range of illnesses to circulate within school and nursery settings.
To support families during this time, Derby City Council Public Health team have developed guidance to help parents and carers understand when it is appropriate for children to attend school or nursery, even if they are feeling slightly unwell.
This guidance is intended to provide clarity and reassurance, helping you to make informed decisions while also supporting your child’s education and wellbeing.
