Celebrating Positive Behaviour at Pear Tree Infant and Nursery School

At Pear Tree Infant and Nursery School, we believe that positive behaviour starts with positive relationships, encouragement and recognition. We celebrate the wonderful choices our children make every day and encourage them to be resilient, respectful and ambitious learners.

Our Diddi Dot reward system gives children lots of opportunities to be recognised for their positive behaviour, kindness, effort, helpfulness and contributions to school life. Every Diddi Dot is a little celebration of something to be proud of!

As children collect their Diddi Dots, they work towards special certificates:

• 15 Diddi Dots – Bronze Certificate
• 30 Diddi Dots – Silver Certificate
• 50 Diddi Dots – Gold Certificate

We love celebrating every achievement, big and small, and seeing our children take pride in their progress. Every Diddi Dot is a reminder that positive choices make a difference!

Celebrating Success Together

We love sharing our children’s achievements with the people who matter most to them. Parents and carers are warmly invited by class teachers to join us for celebration assemblies, where they can share in their child’s special moment and celebrate their success together.

Our Behaviour Policy reflects our positive and inclusive approach to behaviour, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to be recognised, celebrated and encouraged to make positive choices.

Our School Rules

Clear Rules, Shared by Everyone

At Pear Tree Infant and Nursery School, we believe that children thrive when expectations are clear, consistent and understood by everyone. As part of our behaviour philosophy, we explicitly teach and regularly revisit our school rules, helping children understand what positive behaviour looks like and why it matters.

Our rules provide a clear foundation for children to learn, play and grow together safely and respectfully. They are shared across the whole school and reinforced by all staff, ensuring that children experience consistent expectations wherever they are in school.

We teach our children that our rules help everyone to make safe, respectful and responsible choices, creating a positive environment where every child feels valued, supported and ready to learn.

Positive Praise Affirmation Walls

Our Praise Walls enable us to celebrate Positive Choices.

At Pear Tree Infant and Nursery School, positive praise is part of everyday school life. Every member of our team, from teachers and teaching assistants to midday supervisors, office staff and site staff play an important role in recognising and celebrating children’s positive behaviour, attitudes and achievements.

Our Praise Wall provides a visible and consistent way for children to celebrate the wonderful things they do. Through daily affirmations and positive recognition, children are encouraged to notice their own successes and celebrate the achievements of others.

Praise happens throughout the school day in classrooms, on the playground, at lunchtime and during all the different experiences that make up life at Pear Tree Infant & Nursery School. This consistency helps children understand what positive behaviour looks and sounds like, while encouraging them to make kind, respectful and responsible choices.

Our affirmations help children develop the language and confidence to recognise positive qualities in themselves and others. They encourage our children to be respectful, responsible, resilient and ambitious, helping them to grow as confident members of our school community.

Parents as Partners

At Pear Tree Infant and Nursery School, we believe that strong partnerships with families make a real difference. We keep parents and carers informed about our approach to positive behaviour, praise and affirmations, so that everyone understands how we encourage and celebrate positive choices.

We work closely with families to build a shared understanding of our behavioural ethos, helping parents and carers to reinforce the positive messages children experience in school.

By working together, home and school can provide children with consistent encouragement, clear expectations and lots of opportunities to feel proud of their achievements.
