Welcome to Our School

Welcome message from the Head Teacher

I have had the privilege of leading the school since 2017. During this time, it has been a pleasure to work alongside a dedicated and hardworking team who are committed to giving every child the very best start to their education.

Together, we have worked to improve the school in many ways, including our curriculum, learning environment and the opportunities we provide for our children. At the heart of everything we do is a strong belief in high expectations, mutual respect and ensuring that every child feels valued, included and able to succeed.

We are now looking forward to an exciting new chapter as we prepare to move into our new school building in 2026. This is a wonderful opportunity to continue building on our successes and to further enhance what we offer to our children and families.

I remain fully committed to serving our school community and to ensuring that Pear Tree Infant and Nursery School continues to grow, develop and provide the very best for all children.

It is a real pleasure to be part of this school, and I look forward to continuing this journey together.

Mrs B Suddhi

Intent statement

At Pear Tree Infant and Nursery School, we are proud to be a culturally rich and diverse community that celebrates its distinctiveness. Situated within a vibrant inner-city setting, we are committed to providing children with a broad range of experiences that develop key skills and knowledge, while fostering self-belief and high aspirations for the future.

Children are encouraged to be ambitious, resilient and creative learners. Our curriculum is shaped by our core values and is designed to offer engaging and meaningful learning opportunities that inspire curiosity and a love of learning.

By the time children leave our school, they do so as confident, independent learners. This is underpinned by a strong foundation in reading, a curiosity for enquiry, and growing confidence in working collaboratively and solving problems together.

Implementation statement

At Pear Tree Infant and Nursery School, our principles for education are firmly rooted in securing strong foundations in early reading, writing and mathematics, enabling children to become confident and successful lifelong learners. Our curriculum is continually reviewed and adapted through a half-termly, topic-based approach, providing children with rich, engaging and first-hand experiences that develop and deepen their learning.

High-quality teaching with consistently high expectations for all pupils is at the heart of our school. Every child is provided with opportunities to challenge themselves, extend their thinking and broaden their knowledge and skills across all areas of the curriculum. Teachers take pride in delivering well-planned, inclusive learning experiences, supported by targeted and personalised interventions where needed. We believe that strong teaching is key to accelerating progress and raising aspirations for all children.

Progress is carefully monitored through clear end-of-year expectations linked to the National Curriculum, ensuring that skills and knowledge are systematically developed over time. We also follow established programmes, including Essential Letters and Sounds and Maths No Problem, which support children in securing and mastering key aspects of reading, writing and mathematics.

We place great value on outdoor learning and recognise its importance in supporting children’s development. Our youngest learners benefit from high-quality outdoor provision every day, where active, play-based exploration helps to build essential skills and knowledge for future learning.

Alongside this, we promote positive behaviour and celebrate children’s achievements, supporting them to develop respect, resilience and a strong sense of community. Our behaviour approach is consistent across the school and underpinned by care, nurture and a focus on wellbeing. Staff are committed to identifying and supporting vulnerable learners, ensuring that every child is known, valued and supported to succeed.

We are equally committed to working in partnership with parents and carers, recognising them as vital partners in their child’s education. Families are actively involved in school life through celebrations, events and shared milestones.

Through a consistent and ambitious approach to teaching and learning, children are given daily opportunities to engage in challenging learning across reading, writing and mathematics. Our wider curriculum is designed to inspire curiosity and creativity, incorporating outdoor learning, music, movement, role play, drama and performance. Physical education is also prioritised as a key contributor to health and wellbeing.

Overall, our curriculum is designed to create meaningful, memorable experiences that help children build secure knowledge and skills over time. It enables them to thrive in a safe, happy and caring school community where they can excel and enjoy their learning journey.

Impact statement

Teachers and leaders are committed to ensuring that children make progress not only academically, but also through the development of key personal qualities such as confidence, resilience and perseverance. Children are supported to contribute positively to the school community and to understand the importance of making safe, responsible and respectful choices.

Staff take pride in recognising and celebrating children’s learning journeys, which are carefully recorded in books that reflect high expectations for both presentation and outcomes.

School leaders carry out a regular cycle of monitoring, including visits to classrooms and learning environments across the school. This is supported by frequent book looks and discussions with pupils, which help leaders to understand children’s learning, progress and experiences in school.

Teachers assess children’s progress and attainment on a termly basis. These judgements are moderated through half-termly opportunities for internal and external collaboration, helping to ensure consistency and accuracy. Senior leaders work closely with staff to review progress across all groups of children, maintaining high expectations and ensuring that every child is supported to achieve their full potential.
